The Night in Lyon That Sparked It All

It was December 2022, and I found myself in Lyon, France, a city alive with magic during the holiday season. Twinkling lights adorned the streets, the crisp winter air carried the aroma of freshly baked bread and roasted chestnuts, and every corner seemed to invite discovery.

As I wandered through the narrow streets, I came across a tiny wine shop. The warm glow of its lights spilled onto the sidewalk, and I couldn't resist stepping inside. The shelves were lined with bottles, each one seemingly with its own story to tell.

I didn’t know much about French wine at the time, but the shopkeeper’s passion was contagious. "This wine is like the Rhône Valley," he said, "a perfect blend of strength and elegance." He recommended a bottle of Côte-Rôtie, and I didn’t need much convincing. I imagined the joy of sharing it back home.

But when I finally made it home and opened my suitcase, my heart sank. The bottle had shattered during the journey, and my clothes were soaked in deep red wine. It wasn’t just the wine I lost—it was the memory of that cozy shop, the warmth of the shopkeeper’s recommendation, and the feeling of bringing a piece of that magical night back with me.

Instead of frustration, I felt a spark—a determination to make those fleeting travel moments last, not just for myself, but for others who cherish them too.
