Buongiorno, Florence: A Day of Art & Enogastronomic Delights
Where Art Meets Flavorful Delights in the Heart of Tuscany
Back in Italy after a long time, and my first encounter with Florence.
A city where the spirit of the Renaissance meets the joys of gastronomy.
Shall we wander through this unforgettable day together?
☕ The Magic of a Moka Pot Morning
It’s been a while since my last trip to Europe, but one thing that never changes is starting my mornings with my trusty moka pot.
This is my first time in Florence, and the excitement of a new city fills the air.

Following a barista’s recommendation at La Ménagère, I fill my moka pot with a Tuscan blend and turn on the stove.
As the rich aroma of coffee rises in the tiny Airbnb kitchen, it blends with the crisp morning air of wintry Florence.
I settle by the window, waiting for that first sip—when suddenly, an unexpected visitor arrives.
A small black cat sits on the balcony, gazing at me as if to say,
"Welcome to Florence."
🌟 My Moka Pot Essentials
✅ Always use cold water
✅ Grind the coffee slightly coarser than espresso
✅ Don’t pack the coffee too tightly in the filter
✅ Brew slowly over low heat
✅ Slightly open the lid as the coffee starts to rise
✅ Highly recommend La Ménagère’s Tuscan blend (€12)
🏛️ Sunrise Over the Duomo
Jet lag woke me up early, but that turned out to be a blessing.
I had booked an 9:00 AM slot to climb the Duomo’s Cupola—arguably the best time to see Florence before the rush of the tourist crowds.
463 steps.
The number didn’t seem daunting at first, but the narrow, winding staircase was more of a challenge than expected.
Still, reaching the top and seeing the beutiful panoramic view of Florence was worth every breathless step.
Before me stretched a sea of terracotta rooftops,
the Arno River wrapping gently around the city in a warm embrace.
The distant tolling of church bells marked the start of the day,
while the cool morning breeze washed away the fatigue from the climb.

🎨 A Renaissance Encounter at the Uffizi
As I made my way from the Duomo to the Uffizi,
the city was slowly waking up.
Shops were coming to life, vendors were setting up, and the streets still had a quiet charm.
Then, I noticed something.
A street artist sketching the Mona Lisa on the pavement.
"Art isn’t just inside museums," I thought.
Here in Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, the city itself is a canvas.
📍 Inside the Uffizi:
Finally, I stood in front of Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus—
a painting I had seen countless times in books and online.

But this? This was different.
The figures were alive,
the ocean foam and petals appearing to float in the air.

💡 Uffizi Tips:
✅ Book tickets in advance!
✅ Consider an English-guided tour—it brings Renaissance stories to life.
Learning about the Medici family and their influence on art felt like stepping in through a window into history.
"Now I truly understand why Florence was the heart of the Renaissance."
🍖 A Taste of Florence at Sunset
After hours in the museum, the sun was setting.
I wandered near Santa Croce and stumbled upon a tiny trattoria—no name on Google Maps, just a long line of locals.
📌 Bistecca alla Fiorentina
The menu was entirely in Italian,
but I already knew what to order: Florence’s famous T-bone steak.
With my broken Italian, I placed my order.
The waiter smiled and suggested "al sangue"—rare.
I hesitated, then chickened out. Next time, I’ll go for it.
🔥 Then came the steak.
At least two inches thick, perfectly charred on the outside,
tender and juicy on the inside—seasoned only with salt.
Simple. Pure. Unforgettable.
📌 Perfect Pairing: Rosso di Montepulciano 2022
🍷 Aromas of cherry and plum
🍷 A hint of acidity that balanced the richness of the steak
After debating the wine list, Rosso di Montepulciano was the perfect choice.
🫒 A Final Gift from Florence
Before heading home, I stopped by CONAD,
hunting for a special souvenir—Tuscan olive oil.
Deep green, almost golden, they say it’s like liquid gold.
✅ Naturally, I brought Jimmy the Fox’s reusable wine travel bag to bring some wine home safely. I went with Bottle Italy(Bottiglia Italia) to fit the country theme.
It’s designed to protect wine bottles, but it works perfectly for olive oil too.
Now, a taste of Florence will be waiting for me at home.
🌙 One Last Look at Florence
Standing on Ponte Vecchio, I watched the city lights shimmer on the Arno River.
The reflections danced like the final sip of a perfect glass of wine.
"Tomorrow, I leave for Tuscany’s vineyards."
A day filled with art, food, and history—
and the next adventure awaits.
